How To Make Chickpea Burgers

Chickpea Burgers blend canned chickpeas, sun-dried tomatoes, onion, garlic, and Italian parsley into a flavorful vegetarian patty. Seasoned with cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper, the mixture is combined with flour to bind the ingredients. Chilling helps firm the patties before they are cooked by stovetop frying, grilling, or baking until golden and firm. These burgers can be served on buns with preferred toppings for a satisfying plant-based meal.

Description

The recipe begins by draining and drying canned chickpeas, then pulsing sun-dried tomatoes, red onion, and garlic in a food processor until finely chopped. Chickpeas are added and briefly processed to maintain some texture. Flour, spices, and herbs are incorporated, and the mixture is chilled for at least an hour to improve binding and flavor melding. Scooped portions are shaped into patties approximately half a cup in size.

Cooking options include pan-frying in a greased skillet, grilling on foil over medium-high heat, or baking in a greased oven at 400°F, flipping halfway through. Each method develops a golden-brown crust with a firm interior that holds together well. The use of smoked paprika and cumin gives a subtly smoky and earthy flavor profile, complemented by the sun-dried tomatoes' richness.

These chickpea burgers can be served as a vegetarian alternative on burger buns with typical accompaniments like lettuce, cheese, and sauces. They offer a nourishing, plant-based option with a balanced texture and spice.
