How to Make Fried Eggs
Description
How to Make Fried Eggs uses basic ingredients like butter, eggs, salt, and black pepper. The butter provides a rich cooking fat that gently fries the eggs over medium-high heat. Cracking the eggs into the pan allows the whites to set fully while the yolks remain soft and yellow. Removing the eggs promptly prevents overcooking and preserves the desired texture. Variations include flipping the eggs to create over easy eggs or basting them by adding water and covering to gently steam the tops of the whites.
This recipe yields tender fried eggs that work well on their own or as a component of breakfast plates. They can be served with toast, alongside bacon, or with sautéed vegetables.
Adjust cooking time to control yolk firmness, adding up to a couple of minutes for firmer yolks. For over easy eggs, flip carefully after the whites have set. To baste, add a small amount of water and cover the pan to steam the eggs briefly.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon butter or oil
- 2 egg
- salt
- black pepper
Instructions
- Melt butter in a 10" non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
- Crack an egg into a small bowl. Gently slide the egg into the skillet. Repeat with the second egg and cook 4 minutes or until the whites are set and the yolk is soft and yellow.
- Transfer eggs from the pan to a plate immediately so they don't overcook.
- Season with salt & pepper to taste.
Notes
- Flip eggs carefully after 4 minutes for over easy with a slightly runny yolk, cooking 30 seconds more.
- To baste, add 2-3 tablespoons water and cover pan after whites start setting; cook 2-3 minutes more.
- Increase cooking time 1-2 minutes if firmer yolks are preferred.
