How To Make Frozen Tater Tots

This recipe outlines how to bake frozen tater tots coated with vegetable oil and seasoning salt until crispy and golden. The instructions emphasize spreading the tots evenly on a baking sheet to ensure hot air circulation for even cooking. Adjusting cooking time allows for preference on crispiness and texture.

Description

Frozen tater tots are coated in vegetable oil and seasoning salt, then baked on a foil-lined sheet at 400°F. Mixing the tots by hand with oil and seasoning helps distribute flavor evenly across the surface. Spreading them out maximizes exposure to hot oven air, promoting a crispy exterior while maintaining a fluffy interior.

The recipe suggests monitoring the cooking time as different brands may vary and adjusting to achieve desired doneness and crispness. Optional seasoning swaps like garlic powder, onion powder, or parmesan cheese can introduce subtle flavor changes.

This basic method offers a straightforward way to prepare frozen tater tots with texture and flavor enhancement that can suit different tastes or meals. Practical tips include hand mixing for even coating and willingness to experiment with seasoning variations.

  • 1 lb tater tots frozen
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoon Season All salt
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400
  2. Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil ( this is at your discretion, but it does make clean up easy).
  3. Spread the tater tots out across the baking sheet
  4. Pour the oil and seasoning salt onto the rings and baking sheet
  5. Using your hands, mix the oil and the seasoning and tots well
  6. Spread the tots out as much as possible so that the hot oven air will circulate around them well.
  7. Bake at 400 for about 20 minutes (refer to your packaging for your particular brand)

Notes

  • Check your frozen tater tots brand instructions for best time and temperature adjustments.
  • Hand mixing tots with oil and seasoning ensures even coating; wash hands promptly afterward.
  • Adjust bake time to your preferred crispiness; longer for crispier tots, shorter for softer.
  • Try seasoning variations like garlic powder, onion powder, or parmesan cheese for different flavors.
