How To Make Lemon Pepper Tofu (4 Ingredients)
Description
This recipe uses extra-firm tofu broken into chunks and coated evenly with cornstarch, lemon pepper seasoning, and salt to create a flavorful and crispy texture when baked. Baking at 425°F crisps the tofu surfaces while keeping the inside soft. Flipping midway ensures even cooking. The recipe offers alternatives to air frying or sautéing, each yielding slightly different textures but retaining the lemon pepper flavor. The seasoning blend is recommended over single spices to achieve a balanced taste.
The finished tofu pairs well with steamed rice and vegetables such as broccoli or asparagus. This simple preparation highlights tofu's adaptability and the brightness of lemon pepper seasoning without complicating the cooking process.
Leftovers can be stored refrigerated up to four days and reheated in microwave, oven, or skillet to restore crispness. Various all-purpose seasoning blends can substitute the lemon pepper for flavor variation.
Ingredients
- 1 oz package extra-firm tofu drained, 453 g
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp lemon pepper seasoning
- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
- Prep: Preheat oven to 425°F (218°C). Pat tofu dry with a clean towel, then break it into bite-sized chunks. In a large bowl, stir together cornstarch, lemon pepper seasoning, and salt. Add tofu and toss to evenly coat.
- Bake: Arrange tofu pieces on a greased baking sheet and bake for about 25 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking, until golden brown and crispy. After testing both ways, I actually prefer baking the tofu directly on a greased baking sheet instead of parchment paper-lined. It gets crispier!
- Serve: Serve warm with rice and/or a veggie, like broccoli or asparagus!
Notes
- To air fry, cook tofu at 375°F for 10-15 minutes, shaking occasionally for even crisping.
- For sautéing, brown tofu in a lightly greased pan over medium heat for about 15 minutes until crispy.
- Use a seasoning blend rather than a single spice for best flavor; lemon pepper seasoning is suggested.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days and reheat by microwave, oven, or skillet.
