Instructions

  1. Mix together the water and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat on the stove top. Stir frequently until the sugar dissolves.
  2. When sugar dissolves, remove from heat and allow to cool.
  3. When cooled, add the vanilla extract and decant into your preferred jar.

Notes

  • PRO TIPS:
  • It will take a minute for the sugar to melt into the water. Stir frequently and try not to be impatient.
  • No need to boil the water, only heat enough for the sugar to disappear into the water.
  • Wait until the sugar and water mix has cooled to stir in the vanilla. The vanilla is delicate and we don’t want to lose any of that flavor!
  • You can store the completed syrup at room temperature or in the refrigerator. It will cool your hot coffee down less if at room temperature and will warm your iced coffee less if kept in the fridge! Your choice.
  • The finished syrup will last for a month in the refrigerator.
  • Find a beautiful bottle for your syrup and feel like royalty each morning as you make your coffee OR save a used commercial bottle and simply fill it back up with your own syrup.
  • For a pro presentation, use a clear glass bottle and split a vanilla bean and place into the jar. Adds flavor and is fun to look at! You do not have to scrape the seeds out of the pod, simply slice it down the middle (long ways) and put it in the bottle (it will work it's magic!).
  • If you prefer a slightly vanilla brown color to your syrup, substitute ½ cup brown sugar for ½ cup of the white sugar.
