How to Peel a Peach

This recipe demonstrates a straightforward technique for peeling peaches by blanching them briefly in boiling water, then cooling them rapidly in ice water. Scoring an "X" on the peach bottoms allows the skin to loosen easily for removal. This method prevents cooking the fruit while making peeling quick and less messy, ideal for recipes that require peeled peaches.

Description

How to Peel a Peach outlines a method using boiling and ice water baths to loosen the peach skin for easy removal. Peaches are scored with a small "X" on the bottom, briefly boiled for 30 to 45 seconds without cooking the fruit, then transferred to ice water to stop the heat. The skin then slips off efficiently without damaging the peach flesh. If the peel resists, an additional short boil helps. This process is useful when preparing peaches for jams, desserts, or recipes needing peeled fruit.

The texture of the peach remains firm since the boiling time is short, and the chilling in ice water helps maintain integrity. The peeled peaches can then be used immediately or stored as needed. This technique reduces peeling frustration and aids in uniform preparation.
