How to Roast Garlic in the Air Fryer, Grill or Oven

  • 5 heads fresh garlic

Instructions

For the Oven

  1. Cut the tops off of whole heads of garlic to expose the cloves. Drizzle generously with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  2. Wrap the cloves in aluminum foil and place them on a baking sheet. Roast the whole bulbs for 45 minutes until they are very soft and caramelized.

For the Grill

  1. Cut the tops off of whole heads of garlic to expose the cloves. Drizzle generously with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  2. Wrap the cloves in aluminum foil and place them on the top rack of a preheated grill at medium heat.
  3. Grill with the lid closed for 25-35 minutes, depending on the heat, until soft and caramelized.

For the Air Fryer

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. Cut the tops off of whole heads of garlic to expose the cloves. Drizzle generously with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  2. Wrap the cloves in aluminum foil and place them on the air fryer basket.
  3. Air fry for 15-20 minutes until soft and caramelized.

To Roast Cloves of Garlic

  1. Place individual unpeeled garlic cloves in a heat-proof dish.
  2. Oven roast or grill for 25-30 minutes. Air fry for 15-20 minutes.
  3. OR: Peel garlic cloves. Cover the peeled cloves with olive oil. Oven-roast for 20-25 minutes.
  4. Reserve the oil to use in recipes. Store it in the refrigerator for about a week.

Notes

  • How to Store:
  • Roasted cloves can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
  • Make more roasted garlic than you need for your recipe. Garlic freezes well after roasting. Remove the soft cloves from the peels. Add the peeled cloves to a freezer bag. Flatten the bag out. Freeze them for up to 6-9 months for the best flavor.
  • To use in recipes, break off a piece of frozen garlic. One tablespoon of roasted garlic equals one clove.
