- 5 heads fresh garlic
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
For the Oven
- Cut the tops off of whole heads of garlic to expose the cloves. Drizzle generously with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Wrap the cloves in aluminum foil and place them on a baking sheet. Roast the whole bulbs for 45 minutes until they are very soft and caramelized.
For the Grill
- Cut the tops off of whole heads of garlic to expose the cloves. Drizzle generously with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Wrap the cloves in aluminum foil and place them on the top rack of a preheated grill at medium heat.
- Grill with the lid closed for 25-35 minutes, depending on the heat, until soft and caramelized.
For the Air Fryer
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. Cut the tops off of whole heads of garlic to expose the cloves. Drizzle generously with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Wrap the cloves in aluminum foil and place them on the air fryer basket.
- Air fry for 15-20 minutes until soft and caramelized.
To Roast Cloves of Garlic
- Place individual unpeeled garlic cloves in a heat-proof dish.
- Oven roast or grill for 25-30 minutes. Air fry for 15-20 minutes.
- OR: Peel garlic cloves. Cover the peeled cloves with olive oil. Oven-roast for 20-25 minutes.
- Reserve the oil to use in recipes. Store it in the refrigerator for about a week.
Notes
- How to Store:
- Roasted cloves can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
- Make more roasted garlic than you need for your recipe. Garlic freezes well after roasting. Remove the soft cloves from the peels. Add the peeled cloves to a freezer bag. Flatten the bag out. Freeze them for up to 6-9 months for the best flavor.
- To use in recipes, break off a piece of frozen garlic. One tablespoon of roasted garlic equals one clove.
