How to Sauté Onions
Description
The process starts by peeling and slicing yellow onions into thin half-moon shapes, separating the rings for even cooking. A cast iron skillet or griddle is preheated to medium-high heat around 350 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. The sliced onions are placed in the skillet and coated with avocado oil and butter to prevent sticking and encourage browning.
The onions are sautéed for 10 to 15 minutes, stirred every few minutes to promote even cooking and prevent burning. The result is tender, softened onions with a light golden-brown color, which enhances their natural sweetness and reduces pungency.
These sautéed onions are ready to serve with grilled or pan-seared proteins such as burgers or steaks, adding flavorful caramelized notes without becoming crispy or overly dark.
