How to Steam Broccoli

If you know How to Steam Broccoli, then you have a healthy and easy side for any night of the week. Simply prep the broccoli by removing the stems and cutting into florets, then pop them in a steamer basket in a pot with water.

  • 1 bunch broccoli

Instructions

  1. Cut broccoli crowns off of the large stems and then cut them into bite-sized florets. Rinse them thoroughly to remove any visible dirt or debris.
  2. Fill a pot large enough to fit a steamer basket with 1 inch of water. Bring the water to a boil. (If you don’t have a steamer, you can always place the broccoli directly into the pot.)
  3. Add broccoli to the steamer basket and then place it in the pot of boiling water. Cover with a lid, reduce heat to medium, and steam for 5-6 minutes. You’ll know the broccoli is done when it turns bright green and can be easily pierced with a fork.
  4. Once cooked, remove the broccoli from the pot to stop the cooking process and serve immediately.

  • To Store: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days.
  • To Freeze: Flash freeze broccoli in a single layer on a baking sheet for a couple of hours before transferring to a Ziploc bag. Store in the freezer for up to 6 to 8 months.
  • To Reheat: Warm the broccoli back up in a microwave-safe bowl in 30 second intervals.
