How to Steam Broccoli in the Microwave
Description
Chopped broccoli is placed in a microwave-safe bowl with three tablespoons of water and covered with a plate to trap steam. The broccoli is microwaved on high for 2½ to 4 minutes until it becomes tender yet retains some firmness. Careful handling is important as steam will be very hot when removing the cover.
Once steamed, the broccoli can be served as is or briefly tossed with salted butter which adds richness and subtle saltiness. Freshly ground black pepper can be added for mild heat and flavor contrast. The result is vibrant green broccoli with a crisp-tender texture.
This quick steaming technique is useful when short on time or without a steamer. It preserves nutrients better than boiling and keeps natural sweetness and texture of the broccoli intact. The optional butter transforms it into a flavorful side, particularly suitable for simple meals.
