How to Steam Green Beans
Description
Green beans are washed and trimmed before being placed in a steamer basket over simmering water, ensuring the water does not touch them. Covered, they steam for 5 to 7 minutes until they reach a tender yet crisp texture. The steaming keeps the beans vibrant and preserves nutrients.
After steaming, the beans are tossed with melted butter, salt, and freshly ground black pepper to taste, adding richness and balanced seasoning. This approach avoids overcooking and sogginess, resulting in a fresh vegetable side.
For freezing, green beans can be steamed for 3 to 4 minutes, cooled in an ice bath, dried, and frozen in a single layer before transferring to a freezer bag, maintaining quality for later use.
