Iced Sea Salt Coffee (Cold Brewed)

Iced Sea Salt Coffee is a cold brewed coffee drink topped with lightly whipped cream seasoned with flaked sea salt. The method involves slow extraction of coffee flavors by steeping coarsely ground coffee in cold water for 24 hours, filtering, then serving chilled over ice. The salted cream adds a creamy texture with a subtle salty counterpoint to the coffee’s bitterness.

Description

The recipe begins by combining cold water with coarsely ground coffee and allowing it to steep for 24 hours, producing a smooth, less acidic cold brew concentrate. The coffee is filtered through Viva Vantage paper towels to remove grounds, ensuring clarity. Sugar is dissolved into the cold brew to sweeten it before refrigerating.

Meanwhile, whipping cold heavy cream to a whipped but still pourable consistency creates a layer of salted cream when sea salt flakes are incorporated. This cream is scooped atop the iced coffee just before serving, adding a rich mouthfeel and a mild saltiness that balances the coffee’s natural bitterness.

The drink is served over ice with a bit of the salted cream stirred in or enjoyed as a layered beverage. The light sprinkle of extra salt on top enhances the flavor profile. This cold brew style coffee with salted cream offers a refreshing and sophisticated caffeinated option for hot days and coffee enthusiasts.

  • 1 teaspoon sea salt flaked
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 8 cups water cold
  • 1 cup coffee coarsely ground
  • Viva Vantage Paper Towels

Instructions

  1. Combine the cold water and coffee grounds in a large container.
  2. Stir and let sit for 24 hours.
  3. Take a couple of Viva® Vantage® paper towels and pour your coffee through the towel into a clean pitcher.
  4. Add the sugar and whisk together until it is dissolved.
  5. Put the coffee in the fridge until you are ready to make your drink.
  6. Whip the heavy cream until it is thick and frothy, but quite as thick as whipped cream.
  7. Add sea salt to the cream.
  8. Pour coffee over ice, leaving about an inch of room.
  9. Scoop about 1/4 cup of the salted cream on top of the coffee, stir and enjoy.
  10. I like to add a little sprinkle of salt on top, but you can enjoy it as is.
