Indian Fry Bread Recipe

Report
Indian Fry Bread is a simple dough of flour, salt, baking powder, and warm water fried until golden and puffed. The result is a crisp outside with a soft, airy inside. These fried rounds can be eaten plain or topped and used in various ways. The dough rests briefly, then is rolled out and individually fried in hot oil until golden on both sides.

Description

The Indian Fry Bread recipe combines basic pantry ingredients—flour, salt, baking powder, and warm water—to form a dough with a slight rest period. The dough is divided, rolled into thin circles, then deep-fried in hot oil heated to about 350–375°F. The bread puffs slightly during frying, creating a light interior with a crisp, golden crust.

Frying in small batches ensures even cooking without overcrowding. The bread's texture contrasts a soft interior with a slightly crunchy exterior, making it suitable for both sweet and savory toppings or even as a base for dishes.

Freshly fried Indian Fry Bread is best served warm to preserve its texture. It can be enjoyed on its own or accompanied by other dishes depending on preference.
