Indian Mint Sauce
Description
This Indian Mint Sauce combines fresh mint and coriander with a chopped green chili to provide a fresh and mildly spicy base. The blend is finely ground and mixed with ground cumin, garam masala, sugar, and salt to layer savory and aromatic notes. Thick Greek yoghurt is folded in last to maintain a creamy texture without thinning the sauce. A squeeze of lemon or lime juice can add mild acidity but is optional.
The sauce’s texture remains thick and scoopable, making it suitable as a condiment or dipping sauce. The fresh herbs and spices create a distinctive herbal brightness accented with warm spices rather than overt heat. Chilling the sauce before serving allows the flavors to meld and mellow.
Serve this sauce alongside grilled meats, vegetarian dishes, or use it as a spread or dip. It pairs especially well with Indian-style dishes but can add a fresh contrast to richer foods.
Use fresh mint and coriander leaves to preserve authentic flavor and texture. Adding yoghurt last helps maintain the sauce’s thick consistency. Adjust chili amount to taste for heat. Keep sauce refrigerated and remove shortly before serving to ensure optimal freshness.
