Inside Out Omelette
Description
This Inside Out Omelette recipe starts by sautéeing shredded cheddar in a nonstick pan until it begins to melt, then pouring a mixture of beaten eggs and water atop the cheese. Cooking over low heat allows the eggs to gently set, forming an omelette with cheese cooked underneath. The omelette is folded over the cheese to create a layered texture combining soft egg and melted cheese.
Seasoned with salt and pepper, the dish offers a mild savory flavor from the cheddar and a tender, slightly moist texture. The method differs from a typical omelette by layering cheese underneath rather than inside, enhancing the cheese’s role.
Serving the omelette with quartered cherry tomatoes and chopped parsley adds freshness and visual appeal. This dish works well for breakfast or light meals where a simple egg and cheese preparation is desired.
If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days and reheat gently in the microwave until warmed through.
Ingredients
- 2 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- ¾ -1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- cherry tomato quartered, for serving
- parsley for serving, chopped
Instructions
- Heat a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat.
- Crack and beat eggs with water in a small bowl.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese to the entire surface of the pan. When the cheese starts to melt, pour the whisked eggs on top of the cheese.
- Lower the heat to low, and tilt and rotate the skillet to allow the eggs to cover the cheese and to cook through, about 3-4 minutes.
- Place a spatula under half the omelette and fold over. Slide onto a plate, season with salt and pepper, and serve with tomatoes and parsley, if desired.
Notes
- This omelette is best eaten immediately but can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- Reheat leftovers in the microwave until just warmed to maintain texture without drying.
