Instant Pot Basmati Rice
Description
The Instant Pot Basmati Rice recipe outlines rinsing one cup of rice to remove excess starch, then cooking it under high pressure with a precise amount of water—1 cup for firmer rice or 1¼ cups for softer results. Adding salt is optional and can be adjusted to taste. The pressure cook time is set for six minutes after the pot has pressurized, followed by a natural pressure release for ten minutes, which helps finish cooking gently and prevents the rice from becoming mushy. The final step is fluffing the rice with a fork to separate the grains. This technique ensures consistent, well-textured Basmati rice suitable as a side dish with various meals, making use of the convenience and consistency of the Instant Pot appliance.
Ingredients
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 1 cup water (or 1 ¼ cup water if you’d like softer rice)
- ½ teaspoon salt optional
Instructions
- Rinse rice under cold running water in a fine mesh strainer for 30-45 seconds. Shake the strainer vigorously to remove excess water.
- Add rinsed rice, water, and salt (optional) to your Instant Pot. Add 1 cup of water for firmer rice,1 ¼ cups of water for softer rice.
- Stir to make sure all rice is submerged; this will ensure even cooking.
- Put the lid on your Instant Pot, making sure the pressure release valve is sealed.
- Select Pressure Cook on High and set for 6 minutes. The pressure cooker will take around 7 minutes to pressurize before it begins cooking the rice.
- Once the rice has cooked for 6 minutes, let the Instant Pot naturally pressure release for 10 minutes. Set a timer on your phone so you don’t forget!
- At the 10-minute mark, open the pressure release valve and remove the lid. There should be very little pressure left to release. Turn off the Instant Pot.
- Fluff the rice up with a fork and dig in!
Notes
