Instant Pot BBQ Ribs
Description
This recipe calls for two racks of baby back ribs, each around 2.68 pounds. The ribs are rinsed, patted dry, and the membrane removed from the back for a tender bite. The seasoning combines salt, garlic powder, and black pepper, rubbed evenly on the meat. After marinating preferably for several hours or overnight, the ribs are placed on a rack inside the Instant Pot with a cup of water below to create steam for pressure cooking.
The ribs cook on manual high pressure for 35 minutes with natural pressure release to maintain their moisture. Once cooked, they are removed and brushed generously with sweet honey BBQ sauce. Broiling the ribs for 5 to 7 minutes caramelizes the sauce, creating a sticky, browned exterior. After resting briefly, the ribs are sliced and can be served with additional BBQ sauce brushed on.
This approach speeds up traditional slow-cooked ribs while still delivering tenderness and rich flavor. Careful removal of the membrane and marinating enhances texture and taste. Serving suggestions can include classic BBQ sides or salads.
Allowing the ribs to rest after broiling helps juices redistribute. Using natural pressure release avoids drying out the meat. The recipe notes recommend spraying or wrapping foil under the broiler tray for easier cleanup.
Ingredients
- 2 racks baby back ribs (Each one is around 2.68 pounds)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1.5 cups BBQ sauce 1 small bottle, 18 oz, 510g, sweet honey
Instructions
- Wash or rinse 2 racks of the ribs (Each rack is around 2.68 pounds). Then, dry them with a paper towel. Flip the ribs at the back and remove the membrane.
- After that, put 1 teaspoon of salt, 2 teaspoons of garlic powder and 1 teaspoon of black pepper into a small container. Mix it well.
- Next, rub the seasoning from step 2 on the ribs. Let it marinate for 15-30 minutes before cooking. (It's best to let it marinate overnight or a few hours before cooking.)
- Pour 1 cup of water into the instant pot and put a rack in.
- Then, put the marinated baby back ribs on the rack. After that, close the lid and vent. Push the Manual button to adjust time for 35 minutes at high pressure and naturally release pressure. (Don't open the lid until all the pressure is released.)
- Meanwhile, wrap foil around the tray.
- When the ribs are done, open the lid.
- The following step, take the cooked ribs out and put them on the tray with foil.
- Brush ½ cup of sweet honey BBQ sauce on the back of the cooked rib.
- Then, flip the other side of the ribs and brush 1 cup of sweet honey BBQ sauce. Turn on the oven to broil for 5-7 minutes. (Change the rack to the top in the oven, so the ribs will be closer to the fire.)
- After that, rest a few minutes before cutting it.
Notes
- Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs to ensure tender texture.
- Marinate the ribs with seasoning for 15-30 minutes; overnight is preferable for deeper flavor.
- Use natural pressure release on the Instant Pot to keep ribs moist and tender.
- Broil the ribs 5-7 minutes after brushing with BBQ sauce to caramelize the glaze.
- Let ribs rest a few minutes after broiling before cutting to preserve juiciness.
