Instant Pot Black Eyed Peas

Report
Instant Pot Black Eyed Peas combine dry black-eyed peas with ham, diced tomatoes, onions, and seasonings cooked together in chicken broth under pressure. This results in a rich, flavorful dish with tender beans infused with smoky ham and savory broth. The method speeds up the traditionally slow-cooked peas without sacrificing depth or texture, making this a comforting option suitable as a side or main.

Description

This recipe uses an Instant Pot to cook dry black-eyed peas along with ham, diced tomatoes, onions, garlic, and black pepper in chicken broth. The pressure cooking tenderizes the beans quickly while allowing the flavors to meld thoroughly. Ham adds smokiness and richness, while canned diced tomatoes contribute sweetness and acidity that balance the dish.

The resulting black-eyed peas are moist and tender, with a brothy consistency enhanced by the stock and ham. Onions and garlic provide aromatic background notes. This method produces a homey side dish or a hearty component suitable for meals that call for legumes with savory flavor.

After pressure cooking on high for 17 minutes, a natural pressure release is recommended to prevent bean splitting and preserve texture. Stirring before serving ensures even seasoning and an appealing consistency. This simple combination is a practical way to prepare black-eyed peas without long simmering times.
