Instant Pot Brown Rice
Description
This recipe uses brown basmati rice measured with water and a pinch of salt placed into an Instant Pot or electric pressure cooker. After sealing the lid, the manual setting is used to cook the rice for 22 minutes, followed by a natural or quick pressure release. The rice is then fluffed before serving.
The pressure cooking produces rice with tender texture but a firm bite typical of brown rice, maintaining grain integrity without sticking together. This method is especially helpful for consistent batch cooking and frees the cooker after set time.
The rice can serve as a base for various meals, side dishes, or salads. Adjust seasoning to taste before cooking. Note that the cook time excludes pressurizing duration, so plan total time accordingly.

Ingredients
- 2 cups brown rice I used basmati brown rice, 380g
- 2 1/2 cups water 600 ml
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Add rice, water and salt to the Instant Pot.
- Close the lid, select the manual setting and set the timer for 22 mins and let cook.
- When done you can either let the pressure release naturally or let rest for 8 mins and then QPR.
- Fluff the rice and serve.
Notes
- The total cook time excludes the Instant Pot pressurizing time; factor in extra time when planning.
- For 8 servings, the Weight Watchers Freestyle points are 5 per serving and PointsPlus are 4 per serving.
