Description
This recipe combines fresh cranberries, water, orange juice, orange peel, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon in an Instant Pot. Cooking under high pressure for a brief time softens the berries, releasing their natural pectin and flavors. After a natural pressure release, vanilla extract is stirred in, and the orange peel is removed.
The sauce is allowed to thicken further after cooking and cooling. The orange juice adds a bright citrus flavor, while cinnamon contributes subtle warmth. The syrupy texture balances tartness and sweetness. Variations can include using frozen cranberries without thawing.
This cranberry sauce can be served immediately or refrigerated for later use, making it a convenient addition to meals needing a fruity, spiced garnish or spread.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces cranberries fresh
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 inch strip orange peel
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract pure
Instructions
- Place the cranberries, water, orange juice, orange peel, sugar and cinnamon in an Instant Pot. Stir to combine.
- Seal the pot and cook on manual high pressure for 3 minutes.
- Let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes, then manually release the pressure.
- Unseal the pot, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Remove the orange peel and discard. Let the sauce sit for at least 15 minutes to thicken up. The sauce will continue to get thicker as it cools. Serve immediately, or refrigerate for later use.
Notes
- Frozen cranberries can be used directly without thawing.
- Freshly squeezed orange juice is recommended for best flavor.
