Instant Pot French Dip Sandwiches

Report
Instant Pot French Dip Sandwiches feature a beef roast cooked under pressure with onion and onion soup mix to yield tender, shreddable meat. The roast is served on toasted hoagie rolls topped with melted provolone cheese. The cooking liquid from the pot makes a rich dipping sauce that complements the savory beef and bread for a classic sandwich experience.

Description

This recipe uses a 3-4 pound beef roast slow-cooked in the Instant Pot along with sliced onion, onion soup mix, garlic, and beef broth for an hour of pressure cooking. The long cooking time breaks down the connective tissues, resulting in meat that easily shreds. After cooking, the shredded beef is piled onto toasted hoagie rolls and topped with slices of provolone cheese which can be melted under a broiler.

The flavorful broth from the pot is kept for dipping the sandwiches, making the dish authentically satisfying. This approach simulates traditional French dip sandwiches but offers a much shorter preparation time thanks to the Instant Pot.

For a thicker dipping sauce, cornstarch mixed with water can be stirred into the broth and heated on the sauté setting until thickened. This adds body to the au jus without affecting the flavor balance.
