Instant Pot Hamburgers
Description
The recipe begins by mixing lean ground beef with salt and black pepper, then shaping the mixture into two equal-sized patties to ensure even cooking. Each patty is wrapped tightly in foil to retain moisture. The packets are placed on a trivet inside the Instant Pot with water added below, then cooked at high pressure for 8 to 10 minutes.
After a quick release of pressure, the foil is carefully opened to drain excess liquid. For those wanting grilled texture or melted cheese, the burgers can be briefly cooked under a hot grill or broiler. Additional spices can be added to the meat for customized flavor.
The cooked burgers can be served immediately with regular buns if gluten is not a concern. Leftovers store well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. This method offers a convenient alternative to grill or stovetop cooking while maintaining juiciness in the patties.
Care should be taken when opening foil packets as accumulated liquid can spill. Burger presses can assist in uniform patty shaping, but hands work fine. Parchment paper can substitute foil if necessary.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces ground beef lean, 227g
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
Instant Pot Instructions:
- Mix together the ground beef, salt and black pepper in a bowl.
- Form the beef mixture in to 2 burger patties that are the same size.
- Wrap each burger patty in a foil packet, sealing completely.
- Pour 1 ½ cups of water into the Instant Pot insert and place the trivet inside.
- Put burger packets on top of the trivet, close the lid, and turn the valve to the sealing position.
- Set the Instant Pot to manual pressure / high pressure for 8 - 10 minutes.
- Once cook time has finished, perform a quick pressure release. Open the lid and use tongs or oven mitts to remove the foil packets.
- Then open foil packets and carefully remove the burgers, draining any liquid that is inside the packet.
Hamburgers On The Grill Instructions:
- Mix together the ground beef, salt and black pepper in a bowl.
- Form the beef mixture in to 2 burger patties that are the same size.
- Fire up the barbecue or grill and wait until it is medium hot.
- Brush the grill with some olive oil.
- Cooking time depends on how rare you like your burger. As a rough guide, cook your burger for 2-3 minutes, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes and test. Then keep cooking and testing until the hamburgers are as well cooked as you like.
Notes
- Open foil packets carefully to avoid spilling hot liquid.
- For a grilled flavor and browning, finish burgers under a hot grill for a few minutes after Instant Pot cooking.
- Shape patties evenly to ensure uniform cooking times.
- Use either hands or a burger press to form patties; parchment paper can replace foil if needed.
- Customize seasoning by adding spices to the meat mixture.
- Serve on regular buns if not following a gluten-free diet.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- Adding cheese and melting it under the grill is an option for cheeseburgers.
