Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs

Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs provide an easy hands-off method to cook up to a dozen eggs with consistent results. Eggs are placed on a metal trivet above water inside the pressure cooker, then cooked under pressure for 5 minutes, followed by a natural pressure release to gently finish cooking. This process creates eggs that are easy to peel with firm whites and fully set yolks.

Description

This recipe uses the Instant Pot's pressure cooking function to boil eggs without stovetop monitoring. One cup of water is added to the pot, and eggs are arranged on the trivet above it. After sealing the lid and setting the valve to sealing, the pot cooks manually for 5 minutes. Following cooking, a natural pressure release for 5 minutes ensures gentle heat for doneness. Quick release removes remaining pressure, and eggs are cooled in an ice bath to stop cooking and ease peeling.

The method yields uniformly cooked hard boiled eggs with shells that peel cleanly due to temperature changes and steam during cooking. It allows cooking anywhere from 1 to 12 eggs at once and is less labor-intensive than boiling on the stovetop.

Once cooled, eggs can be peeled and used immediately or stored in the refrigerator for later use in salads, snacks, or recipes requiring hard boiled eggs.

Instructions

  1. Add 1 c. of water to your Instant Pot. Place the metal trivet inside that comes with your Instant Pot.
  2. Place the eggs on top of the trivet. You can use up to 12 eggs in a 6 quart Instant Pot or as little as 1 egg.
  3. Secure the lid onto the pot and make sure the vent is turned to the “sealing” position.
  4. Press the manual button on the Instant Pot and adjust to 5 minutes of cooking time.
  5. Once the Instant Pot cycle is complete and it beeps, wait for an additional 5 minutes to naturally release the pressure. Then use a quick release to release any remaining pressure.
  6. Unlock the lid and remove from the Instant Pot.
  7. Place the eggs in a bowl of ice water and let them sit for five minutes to cool.
  8. Remove from water and peel. To peel gently tap the eggs against a hard surface and peel off the shell. Rinse egg under cold water to make sure all egg shells are removed. Gently pat dry.
