Instant Pot Lobster Tails

Instant Pot Lobster Tails feature tender lobster meat quickly steamed under pressure with minimal water. The tails are carefully prepped by cutting and rinsing to remove grit and the visible digestive tract. Cooking for a brief 2 minutes under steam pressure retains the lobster's natural sweetness and delicate texture. After cooking, brushing with melted butter and serving with lemon wedges adds richness and brightness, ideal for a fresh seafood offering with a simple method.

Description

The Instant Pot Lobster Tails recipe prepares four 4-ounce lobster tails by first cutting and extracting the meat carefully from the shell, ensuring to rinse away any grit and remove the black digestive tract vein. Using a steamer basket inside the Instant Pot, the lobster tails are placed above one cup of water and steamed under pressure for two minutes once the pot reaches pressure. This method delivers lobster meat that is tender yet firm, avoiding overcooking. Upon completion, the tails are served immediately, optionally brushed with melted butter and accompanied by lemon wedges, which adds a traditional flavor contrast and richness to the seafood.

The brief steaming under pressure preserves the delicate flavor and texture of the lobster without the need for lengthy boiling or baking. The cook should prepare the lobster tails by removing the digestive tract to avoid any bitter taste, a step necessary as most suppliers do not remove it. The recipe suggests serving the lobster as-is or with drawn butter and lemon, simple accompaniments that enhance the natural sweetness of the meat. This recipe allows enjoying lobster tails easily at home using an Instant Pot.

Care is needed when releasing pressure and removing the tails to avoid overcooking. The recipe does not specify reheating or storage advice but implies serving immediately after cooking for best quality. The minimal seasoning approach keeps the lobster's clean flavor front and center. This method offers an approachable way to prepare seafood traditionally requiring precise timing and technique.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4- 4 oz. lobster tails
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Cut the lobster tails on the rounded side down to the fan of the tail. Carefully, pop meat out of the tail. Rinse under cold water to remove any grit or shell. Repeat until all the lobster tails have been cut.
  2. Using a steamer basket or trivet place in the Instant Pot. Place the tails on top, then pour in 1 cup of water.
  3. Close lid and place steam valve to "sealed". Cook on "steam" for 2 minutes. *See notes on cooking frozen below. It will take 2-3 minutes to come to pressure then 2 minutes to cook.
  4. Once the tails are done cooking and the timer beeps, carefully force pressure from the valve *this will take about 1 minutes.
  5. Carefully, unlock the lid and remove the lobster tails. Brush each piece of lobster meat with a little bit of melted butter if desired. Serve with lemon wedges and melted butter. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Remove the lobster's long black digestive tract visible on the underside after cutting to ensure cleaner tasting meat.
  • Check whether your lobster supplier has already removed the digestive tract before purchase.
  • Serve the cooked lobster tails immediately with optional melted butter and lemon wedges to enhance flavor.
