Instant Pot Oatmeal

This is a straightforward Instant Pot oatmeal recipe using old fashioned oats, milk, water, and a pinch of salt. Cooking under pressure produces a creamy, tender oatmeal without stovetop monitoring. Letting it sit after cooking improves texture.

Description

Instant Pot Oatmeal combines equal parts old fashioned oats, milk, and water with salt to create a creamy breakfast cereal cooked under pressure. The ingredients are sealed in the Instant Pot, which cooks the mixture for three minutes on high pressure. After the cooking time, the oatmeal sits in the pot for 15-20 minutes to naturally release pressure, allowing the oats to fully absorb liquid and soften.

The final oatmeal has a smooth, thick consistency and tender texture. It can be served immediately with additional milk or toppings as desired. The use of both milk and water balances creaminess and prevents scorching.

This method is convenient for set-it-and-forget-it preparation. Leftover oatmeal can be stored refrigerated for 3-5 days. Reheating with a splash of milk restores creaminess.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Add the oats, milk, water and salt to the instant pot. Place the lid on the instant pot and seal.
  2. Press manual and set the cooking time for 3 minutes on high. Make sure the pressure valve is sealed. Once the instant pot beeps that the cooking time is up, let the oatmeal sit in the pot for 15-20 minutes for the pressure to naturally release, then flip the pressure valve to vent to release any remaining pressure.
  3. Enjoy immediately with toppings of your choice. If you like it creamier you can add an extra splash of milk. Leftover oatmeal can be refrigerated in a tight compartment for 3-5 days.
