Instant Pot Oatmeal Recipe
Description
The Instant Pot Oatmeal Recipe offers a simple technique to prepare two types of oats—steel cut and old fashioned rolled oats—using a pressure cooker. Both versions combine oats with water, vanilla almond milk, a cinnamon stick, and a pinch of kosher salt inside the Instant Pot. Cooking under high pressure for three minutes followed by a natural release period produces oats that are soft and infused with subtle cinnamon and vanilla flavors.
Steel cut oats provide a heartier texture due to their whole grain nature, while rolled oats cook faster and give a creamier consistency. The cinnamon stick adds warmth without overpowering, and almond milk contributes mild sweetness and flavor. After cooking, toppings can be added as desired, making this recipe adaptable to individual tastes.
This method streamlines oatmeal preparation by reducing active cooking time and monitoring. The finished oatmeal can be refrigerated for three to five days, offering meal prep convenience. Adjusting texture is possible by varying natural release times or liquid ratios.
Ingredients
For Steel Cut Oats
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup vanilla almond milk Almond Breeze brand
- 1 cup steel cut oats
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 kosher salt generous pinch
For Old Fashioned Rolled Oats
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup vanilla almond milk Almond Breeze brand
- 1 cup rolled oats old fashioned
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 kosher salt generous pinch
Instructions
- Add the oatmeal of your choice and the liquid ratios that match to the pot of your Instant Pot or electric pressure cooker with the cinnamon stick and kosher salt.
- Press the manual setting and set the cooking time for 3 minutes on high.
- Once the cooking time ends, allow the oatmeal to sit in the pot to natural release the pressurized steam for 20 minutes. Flip the release valve using the end of a wooden spoon to release any residual steam and always face the lid away from you when opening.
- Add toppings of your choice with additional almond milk to taste. Oatmeal can be refrigerated for 3-5 days.
Notes
- Use various toppings including sweet and savory options as preferred for serving.
