Instant Pot Pear Apple Cider Recipe
Description
The Instant Pot Pear Apple Cider recipe combines quartered apples, pears, and oranges with fresh cranberries and a blend of whole spices including cinnamon sticks, star anise, and nutmeg. These ingredients are combined with maple syrup and water, then cooked under high pressure in an Instant Pot to efficiently infuse the fruit and spices into the liquid.
After pressure cooking, the citrus and whole spices are removed, and the remaining softened fruit is mashed and strained through a fine mesh sieve. This produces a smooth, flavorful cider that balances fruit sweetness with aromatic spices. The use of maple syrup adds a subtle depth to the sweetness.
The cider can be served warm, making it a comforting beverage for cooler weather, or chilled as a refreshing drink. It stores well for up to a week in the refrigerator and freezes effectively for longer preservation.
Alternatively, the recipe can be adapted for slow cooker preparation by cooking on high for 4 hours or low for 6 hours, offering flexibility in method while achieving similar results.
Ingredients
- 3 apple or 5 medium apples, large
- 3 pear or 5 medium pears, large
- 2 orange
- 1 cup cranberries fresh
- 4 cinnamon stick
- 2 star anise
- 1 nutmeg whole
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 8 cups water (enough to cover the fruit)
Instructions
- Wash the apples, the pears, and the oranges, you don’t need to peel the apples and the pears
- Cut in quarters and place in the instant pot
- Add the rest of the ingredients.
- Close the lid of the instant pot, place the valve on sealing and cook on high pressure for 15 minutes. It will take about 20 minutes for the pressure to rise and start the cooking process. Once cooking is over, release the pressure naturally.
- Remove the orange, the cinnamon stick, and the star anise from the pot. With the help of a potato masher, mash the rest of the fruits.
- Strain the leftovers of the fruit with a fine-mesh sieve. With the back of a wooden spoon press out the rest of the juice from the leftovers
- Your cider is ready to serve!
Notes
- Store the prepared cider in the refrigerator for up to one week, or freeze it for longer storage.
- For slow cooker preparation, combine all ingredients and cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 6 hours.
- Use fresh fruit and whole spices for best flavor extraction during pressure cooking or slow cooking.
