Instant Pot Quinoa
Description
This recipe describes two Instant Pot methods to cook quinoa: manual high pressure for 1 minute or using the rice button (approximately 12 minutes at low pressure). Before cooking, the Instant Pot insert is lightly brushed with oil to prevent quinoa from sticking. After adding rinsed quinoa, water, and optional salt, the pot is sealed and cooked according to the selected mode. A natural pressure release ensures the quinoa finishes cooking and absorbs moisture evenly.
The resulting quinoa is fluffy with a delicate nutty taste and separates easily when fluffed with a fork. The pressure cooking methods shorten overall preparation compared to stovetop methods. The oil helps maintain texture and prevents clumping.
Instant Pot quinoa serves as a base for many meals, from salads to bowls and side dishes. It can be flavored by cooking with broth or adding zest, herbs, and spices. Quinoa stores well refrigerated for up to a week and can be frozen for later use. Light toasting before cooking boosts the nutty flavor.
Planning ahead for pressure build and release time is useful. Using calorie-controlled cooking spray instead of oil reduces calories per serving. Quinoa can be incorporated into diverse menus or dietary plans depending on additions.
