The Instant Pot Steamed Baby Potatoes Recipe is designed to cook 1-inch baby potatoes gently in a steamer basket within the pressure cooker. Placing the potatoes above one cup of water allows steam to cook them evenly without direct boiling. After a high-pressure setting of 5 minutes, the natural pressure release ensures the potatoes are fully tender yet intact.

The method keeps the potatoes' skins soft but intact and the interior delicate. Steaming rather than boiling helps retain flavor and texture. This technique works well for quick preparation of potatoes that can then be served as a simple side or included in salads or other dishes.

  • 1 lb baby potato 1-1.5 inch in size
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Clean potatoes with water and place them in the steamer basket. 
  2. Add 1 cup water in the instant pot steel insert. Place the steamer basket in it. Close lid with vent in sealing position.
  3. Set to Pressure cook or manual mode at high pressure for 5 mins.
  4. When the instant pot beeps, let the pressure release naturally. If in a hurry, you can release pressure 10 minutes after the beep.
  5. Carefully remove the steamer basket from the instant pot. Let the potatoes cool a bit before using. 

Notes

  • If potatoes are larger (2 to 2.5 inches), increase pressure cooking time to 8 minutes for thorough cooking.
  • The pressure cooking time stays the same regardless of potato quantity, provided they are similar in size.
  • Let potatoes cool slightly after removing to avoid burns and to allow easier handling.
  • This recipe was tested using a 6-quart Instant Pot DUO60 model.
