Instant Pot Sticky Rice

This Instant Pot sticky rice recipe cooks glutinous rice using a steaming method inside a stainless steel bowl with water, producing tender, moist rice with the desired sticky texture. It requires no soaking and uses cold water for pressure cooking, making it convenient for quick preparation while maintaining authenticity. The rice can be served as an accompaniment to various Asian dishes.

Description

Instant Pot Sticky Rice is made by placing glutinous rice submerged in cold water inside a stainless steel bowl set on a steamer rack within the pressure cooker. Cooking under high pressure for 12 minutes followed by a natural release yields sticky rice with the characteristic tender and gluey texture. The setup prevents direct contact of rice with the Instant Pot’s liquid, steaming the rice evenly.

The rice does not need soaking beforehand, simplifying prep time. After cooking, the rice is gently fluffed and served warm as a side dish common in many Asian cuisines. The method can be scaled by doubling rice and water quantities, adjusting pressure cooking time accordingly.

This hands-off approach speeds up sticky rice preparation while keeping the traditional texture, ideal for pairing with savory mains or sweet dipping sauces.
