Instant Pot Wild Rice Recipe
Description
The Instant Pot Wild Rice Recipe focuses on cooking wild rice using a pressure cooker for consistent results. The wild rice is rinsed to remove surface starch, then combined with water and optionally kosher salt. Pressure cooking allows the rice to absorb liquid evenly and quickly while developing a chewy yet tender texture. After cooking and natural release, fluffing the rice ensures separation of grains without mushiness.
The resulting wild rice has a hearty texture and earthy flavor, suitable as a side dish for various proteins or as a base for grain salads. It provides a wholesome, whole-grain option that holds up well to sauces and seasonings.
This recipe yields approximately 2 1/3 cups cooked wild rice, making it practical for everyday meals. The straightforward ingredients and method make it accessible for cooks looking to prepare wild rice without the traditional long stovetop cooking time.
Ingredients
- 1 cup wild rice 6 oz
- 1 1/3 cups water 330 ml
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt optional
Instructions
- Place wild rice into a colander, rinse under cold water, and drain.
- Transfer the rinsed and drained wild rice into the instant pot and pour in the water. If preferred, you can add some salt as well.
- Secure the lid and make sure that the pressure regulator is set to sealing position. Select Manual and cook at high pressure for 20 minutes, followed by a 10-minute natural release. If there is any pressure left, release it by turning the pressure regulator knob onto the venting position. Carefully open the lid.
- Fluff the now-cooked wild rice with a fork or a wooden spoon and serve.
