Jalapeno Poppers

Jalapeno Poppers feature halved jalapeño peppers filled with a creamy mixture of cream cheese, garlic, green onion, cheddar cheese, and bacon. The stuffed peppers bake until the cheese melts to a golden color, creating a creamy, mildly spicy appetizer with savory bacon bits. This dish balances the heat of jalapeños with rich and cheesy filling, suitable for sharing.

Description

The recipe begins by slicing fresh jalapeños lengthwise and removing seeds and membranes to reduce heat intensity. The filling is made by combining softened cream cheese with minced garlic, chopped green onion, shredded cheddar cheese, seasoned with salt and pepper, and mixed with cooked, chopped bacon. These ingredients create a rich, flavorful filling that complements the pepper's spice.

Each jalapeño half is carefully filled without overstuffing to ensure even cooking. Baking at 400°F for about 18 to 20 minutes melts and slightly browns the cheese mixture, giving the poppers a appealing golden top and creamy texture. The contrast between the crisp pepper flesh and the smooth filling creates a satisfying bite.

To avoid irritation from spicy peppers, wearing gloves when handling jalapeños is recommended. These poppers can be served warm or at room temperature as a flavorful snack or party appetizer.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 12 jalapeños
  • 8 oz cream cheese room temp
  • 1 garlic minced, clove
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper ground
  • 3 Tbsp green onion chopped
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded, mild
  • 6 oz Bacon cooked and chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Halve the jalapenos lengthwise*. Use a spoon to remove the seeds and membranes from the jalapenos. Discard.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese, garlic, salt, pepper, green onion, shredded cheese, and cooked bacon for the filling. Use a fork to mash the mixture until everything is well incorporated.
  3. Fill the jalapeno halves with the mixture to sit level with the sides. Don't be tempted to overstuff them. Place the stuffed jalapenos on a baking sheet and bake at 400°F for 18-20 minutes, or until the cheese melts golden in color. Serve warm or cooled to room temperature.

Notes

  • Wear gloves when handling jalapeños to protect your skin from capsaicin irritation.
  • Remove all seeds and membranes from jalapeños to control the heat level.
  • Do not overfill the peppers to ensure even cooking and prevent spills.
  • Serve warm or cooled to room temperature depending on preference.
