Jalapeno Poppers Recipe

This Jalapeno Poppers recipe features fresh jalapeno peppers stuffed with a creamy blend of cream cheese and cheddar, then coated in flour and breadcrumbs before frying to a golden brown. The combination of spicy peppers, creamy filling, and crunchy fried exterior creates a satisfying contrast of textures and moderate heat. They are best served warm with a dipping sauce like ranch for balance and cooling effect.

Description

The Jalapeno Poppers Recipe centers on halved and seeded jalapenos filled with a mixture of softened cream cheese and shredded cheddar. Each stuffed pepper is dipped repeatedly between milk, flour, and breadcrumbs to build a thick crust before frying. This method gives the poppers a crispy outer shell while retaining a smooth, cheesy interior with spicy warmth from the peppers.

Frying at medium-high heat until golden brown ensures a crunchy coating that contrasts well with the creamy filling. Draining the poppers on paper towels removes excess oil for a cleaner bite. The peppers retain their integrity but soften mildly from frying, providing a pleasant bite without overwhelming heat.

Jalapeno Poppers make a flavorful appetizer or snack and pair well with cooling dips like ranch dressing. For storage, they are best enjoyed fresh but can be kept airtight in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven to maintain crispness. They can also be frozen before frying, allowing convenient preparation later.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 6 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 10-12 jalapeno pepper halved and seeded
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix cream cheese and shredded cheese in a bowl. Spoon a few tablespoons of this mixture into the pepper halves.
  2. Place milk, flour, and bread crumbs in separate bowls. Dip jalapenos in milk, then flour, then back in milk. Dip peppers in bowl with bread crumbs making sure it is all coated. (To make sure they are coated, re-dip in milk and back in breadcrumbs)
  3. Heat oil in a skillet on medium-high heat. Fry jalapeno peppers for a few minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Let drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve warm with ranch or other dipping sauces.

Notes

  • For best texture, eat jalapeno poppers fresh after frying.
  • Leftovers should be stored airtight in the fridge and reheated at 400°F for 10-15 minutes.
  • To freeze, coat the poppers and freeze individually before transferring to a freezer bag; fry from room temperature to warm and crisp.
  • Repeated dipping in milk and breadcrumbs ensures a thick, even coating.
