Japanese White Sauce

Japanese White Sauce is a creamy condiment blending mayonnaise and ketchup with sugar, garlic and onion powders, paprika, cayenne, salt, water, and a bit of Sriracha for heat. Whisked until smooth, the sauce offers a balanced combination of tangy, sweet, smoky, and spicy flavors. It’s chilled before serving, allowing the flavors to develop and meld for a versatile sauce suited to various dishes.

Description

This Japanese White Sauce is an easy-to-make creamy sauce combining mayonnaise and ketchup as the base, sweetened slightly with sugar and seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and cayenne pepper for a mild heat. The addition of Sriracha hot sauce contributes a subtle spiciness and depth. Water is added to adjust the consistency, creating a smooth, pourable sauce after thorough whisking. The mixture is refrigerated, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to blend and mellow, resulting in a balanced sauce with sweet, smoky, tangy, and spicy notes.

The sauce can be used as a dip, dressing, or topping, complementing a variety of dishes. Adjusting the sugar level in small increments allows customization of the sweetness to taste. Reducing cayenne can temper the heat but removing spicy components like Sriracha and cayenne lessens the characteristic flavor balance. Resting the sauce improves the flavor, making it more rounded the next day.
