Jarcuterie
Description
This recipe arranges marcona almonds or other nuts with dried figs, dates, or apricots at the base of jars, topped with skewers threaded with folded or rolled Italian cold cuts such as salami, assorted cheeses including cheddar and mozzarella balls, olives, and pickled vegetables. Breadsticks or cheese straws and crackers fill remaining spaces, providing texture variations and height.
The skewers combine contrasting flavors — salty cured meats with mild cheeses and sweet or tart berries — finished with fresh herb sprigs like thyme, rosemary, or marjoram. This layering approach creates visually appealing, single-serve charcuterie jars that mix flavors and textures while offering convenience and portability.
The ingredients are flexible: nuts, cold cuts, cheese selections, and pickles can be substituted based on preference. The recipe emphasizes assembling the components thoughtfully for balanced bites and proper jar filling. These jars suit informal gatherings or as grab-and-go snacks, presenting a curated selection of flavors in a compact form.

Instructions
- Start with a layer of nuts and dried fruits at the bottom of each of your jars or glasses.
- Construct your skewers. You can do this in lots of different variations ~ refer to the photos for inspiration. Fold sliced meats in quarters or roll them before threading. You can mix meat and cheese, or do them separately. Top each skewer with a pickle or other small item. Thread berries onto their own skewers.
- Begin by adding your skewers to your jars. Use about 3 per jar.
- Add any stand alone items like meat or cheese sticks next. If you have space you can add sliced apple, grapes, or baby cucumber spears.
- Add bread sticks and crackers. Then insert the herb sprig. You're ready to serve!
Notes
- Choose nuts like Marcona almonds, spiced pecans, or cashews to vary texture and flavor.
- Select Italian cold cuts such as salami, prosciutto, or sopressata; plan on 3-4 slices per jar.
- Use firm cheeses like cheddar or Manchego cut into cubes; 2-3 cubes per jar is ideal.
- Small mozzarella balls, preferably the smallest size known as Perlini, add mild creaminess.
- Add tall breadsticks or cheese straws for height; wedge small crackers in available spaces for crunch.
