Jugo Verde (Mexican Green Juice)
Description
Jugo Verde is prepared by pureeing fresh and bottled ingredients such as orange juice, pineapple chunks, chopped nopal cactus paddle (or celery as a substitute), cucumber with peel, and packed parsley or cilantro. A pinch of salt is added to enhance the overall flavor. The mixture is blended thoroughly until smooth and green frothy consistency appears. Optionally, the juice can be strained through a sieve to remove pulp for a clearer drink.
The drink presents a balance between tropical sweetness and crisp vegetal flavors, reflective of its fruit and vegetable components. The inclusion of nopal cactus paddle or celery adds a mild bitterness and nutritional depth, while cucumber and herbs contribute fresh, watery notes that lighten the drink.
Jugo Verde is best served chilled and consumed fresh for optimal taste and nutrient content. It can be enjoyed for breakfast, as a midday refresher, or alongside light meals. The recipe is simple to prepare and adaptable with optional straining to suit personal texture preferences.
