Juicy Grilled Burgers
Description
Juicy Grilled Burgers are made from a blend of 85/15 ground beef mixed with a balanced combination of seasonings including garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. The patties are evenly formed with a shallow dimple in the center, which helps prevent uneven puffing and promotes uniform cooking. Grilling over medium-high heat with avocado oil to prevent sticking, the burgers cook in around seven minutes total, yielding a medium level of doneness with a moist interior.
The lightly spiced and smoky flavor from the seasoning blend complements the beef’s natural taste without overpowering it. This method is ideal for grilling enthusiasts who want well-defined patties with a consistent texture. Serving these burgers immediately after grilling preserves their juiciness and prevents drying out.
For those interested in variety, cheese slices can be added near the end of grilling to melt slightly. Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for several days and can be frozen for months. Reheating is easily done in the microwave at a reduced power to maintain tenderness. The recipe also recommends shaping patties ahead of time and refrigerating before cooking if preferred.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef 85/15, lean
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt or ½ teaspoon of any other salt, including Morton kosher salt, Diamond Crystal brand
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil for the grill
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and chili powder.
- Form the mixture into four patties, each of them about 4 ounces in weight, 3.5 inches in diameter, and ½ inch thick.
- Preheat a grill or a grill pan on medium-high heat. Lightly brush the grill with oil.
- Make a shallow dimple in the center of each patty to help the burgers cook evenly and maintain their shape.
- Cook the burgers, dimpled side up, for 4 minutes. Turn and cook them on the other side, about 3 more minutes for medium doneness. (See notes).
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- Adjust grilling time based on your grill’s heat and patty thickness to achieve the preferred doneness.
- Shape patties in advance and refrigerate if needed; they maintain shape well when grilled later.
- Use a ground beef blend with about 15% fat to keep the burgers juicy and avoid dryness.
- Add cheese slices during the last minute of grilling and cover to melt, or microwave briefly if preferred.
- Store leftovers airtight in the refrigerator for 3-4 days, or freeze for up to three months.
- Reheat burgers gently in the microwave at 50% power to preserve moisture.
