Kentucky Bourbon Coffee
Description
This recipe combines hot coffee with one ounce of bourbon, half an ounce of coffee liqueur, and a half teaspoon of vanilla extract. Sweetness can be adjusted using optional brown sugar. The drink is finished by pouring heavy cream over the back of a spoon so it rests on top rather than mixing in immediately.
The flavor melds robust coffee with bourbon warmth and coffee liqueur sweetness, balanced by aromatic vanilla. The floated cream adds a velvety texture contrasting the strong coffee base. Served immediately, this cocktail offers a balance of bitter, sweet, and creamy elements.
It works well as a comforting after-dinner drink or a special coffee treat. The drink yields one cocktail. For a nonalcoholic version, skip the bourbon and liqueur and use bourbon-flavored coffee.
Ingredients
- coffee freshly brewed, 4-6 oz
- 1 ounce bourbon
- ½ ounce coffee liqueur
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar optional, sweeten to taste
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ½ ounces heavy cream
Instructions
- Pour hot coffee, bourbon, vanilla, and coffee liqueur into a mug. Stir, and sweeten to taste with brown sugar (optional).
- Hold a small metal spoon, curved side up, against the inside wall of the mug and just above the coffee drink. Pour cream over spoon. (Spoon will help the cream remain mostly on the top of the drink). Serve immediately.
Notes
- This recipe yields one cocktail and does not include optional sugar in nutrition info.
- To make a mocktail version, omit the bourbon and coffee liqueur and use bourbon-flavored coffee instead.
