King Cake Martini

The King Cake Martini is a cocktail blending hazelnut liqueur, white creme de cacao, cinnamon-infused vodka, and coffee liqueur, topped with club soda and served in a glass rimmed with colorful colored sugars. The cinnamon vodka adds a warm spice note reminiscent of the traditional king cake dessert flavors, enhanced by the nutty hazelnut and chocolate hints.

Description

This King Cake Martini begins with a homemade cinnamon-infused vodka, prepared by steeping cinnamon sticks in vodka for 5 to 7 days to impart a warm, spicy note. The cocktail is built by combining hazelnut liqueur, white creme de cacao, cinnamon-infused vodka, and coffee liqueur with ice and shaking to chill and blend the flavors. It is poured into a martini glass rimmed with green, purple, and yellow sugar to evoke Mardi Gras colors associated with king cake.

The cocktail balances nutty, chocolate, coffee, and cinnamon flavors with a fizzy finish from club soda. The glass rim adds a festive texture and subtle sweetness to each sip. This drink is served immediately after preparation to maintain its effervescence and chilled quality.

The recipe for the infused vodka yields enough for multiple cocktails, allowing batch preparation ahead of time. Alternatively, store-bought cinnamon vodka can be used to expedite the process. The color-coated sugar rim enhances the visual appeal matching the king cake tradition.

Ingredients

Servings

Cinnamon-Infused Vodka (Makes 8 servings)

  • 4 oz. vodka
  • 2 cinnamon stick

King Cake Martini (Makes 1)

  • 1 ½ oz. hazelnut liqueur
  • 1 oz. creme de cacao white variety
  • ½ oz. cinnamon vodka
  • ¼ oz. coffee liqueur
  • 2 ½ oz. club soda
  • green purple and yellow decorative sugars, for the rim of the glasses

Instructions

Make the Cinnamon-Infused Vodka

  1. In a mason jar, measure out the vodka.
  2. Add the cinnamon sticks, breaking in half if too large for the mason jar.
  3. Infuse for 5-7 days, then remove the cinnamon sticks and strain using a fine mesh strainer.
  4. Transfer to a clean mason jar, and store until time to make the drinks.

Make the King Cake Martini

  1. Add the colored sugar rim to the martini glasses: Dip the martini glasses in a shallow dish holding water. Sprinkle the three colored sugars onto a plate, careful to keep them separate. Dip the glasses’ rims into the sugar, and remove. Set aside.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine the hazelnut liqueur, white crème de cocoa, cinnamon-infused vodka and coffee liqueur and add ice.
  3. Shake vigorously until combined.
  4. Pour the drink into the prepared martini glass.
  5. Top with club soda, and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Cinnamon-infused vodka requires 5-7 days infusion but yields enough for multiple cocktails.
  • You can scale the cocktail recipe to serve more by multiplying the ingredient amounts.
  • If short on time, pre-made cinnamon vodka from the store can be used as a substitute.
  • The sugar rim uses separate colors of decorative sugars to keep the traditional Mardi Gras theme.
