Kiwi Syrup
Description
The Kiwi Syrup recipe uses ripe kiwis peeled and chopped, then cooked with sugar and water to dissolve the sugar and marry the flavors. Simmering softens the fruit and releases juice, which is extracted by straining through a fine mesh. Pressing gently avoids including kiwi bits, keeping the syrup clear and smooth.
The final syrup offers a tropical sweetness balanced by the natural tartness of kiwi. It's versatile for flavoring beverages, cocktails, pancakes, or drizzling over fruit. Keeping the syrup refrigerated preserves its freshness for up to one week.
Adjust the recipe scale by halving or doubling it, keeping ingredient ratios the same. For maximum flavor, use kiwis that are slightly soft to the touch with a vivid green hue. If bits remain after straining, an additional strain can clarify the syrup further.

Ingredients
- 4 kiwi ripe
- 1 cup granulated sugar 200g, white
- ¾ cup water 180ml
Instructions
- Peel the kiwis and cut into chunks.
- Add all ingredients to a small pot.
- Stir it together, bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Allow the mixture to cool slightly. Place a fine-mesh strainer over a bowl or jug and pour in the mixture. Lightly press the kiwis into the strainer to extract the juice, but don't press too hard or your syrup could have 'kiwi bits' in it.
- Allow the mixture to cool, then pour into a jar or bottle and keep in the fridge for up to 1 week.
Notes
- Use ripe kiwis that are soft to the touch for sweeter flavor extraction.
- Press kiwi gently when straining to avoid pulp bits in the syrup.
- Recipe quantities can be doubled or halved, keeping proportions consistent.
- Keep syrup in the fridge and consume within seven days for freshness.
