Korean Ground Beef

Korean Ground Beef features lean ground beef cooked with a savory sauce of reduced-sodium soy sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, rice vinegar, garlic, sesame oil, fresh ginger, and a touch of gochujang for mild heat. The quick cooking results in tender beef coated in a flavorful glaze, suitable for serving over rice or noodles.

Description

This Korean Ground Beef recipe creates a richly flavored dish by combining a balanced sauce made from soy sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, rice vinegar, minced garlic, sesame oil, freshly grated ginger, gochujang sauce, onion powder, and black pepper. The gochujang adds a mild spicy and slightly sweet depth without overwhelming heat.

The ground beef is browned first, then the sauce is poured over and cooked down briefly until only a small amount remains, coating the beef with a glossy, flavorful finish. The dish is designed for quick cooking and concentrated flavor.

This beef mixture pairs well with steamed rice or noodles and can be served alongside vegetables for a complete meal. Adjustments to gochujang amount allow control of spiciness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce reduced-sodium
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar packed
  • 2 tablespoons beef broth reduced-sodium
  • 1 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger grated fresh
  • 2 teaspoons gochujang sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper ground
  • 1 pound ground beef lean

Instructions

  1. Stir together the soy sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, rice vinegar, garlic, sesame oil, grated ginger, Gochujang sauce, onion powder, and black pepper.
  2. Set aside.
  3. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet.
  4. Drain any fat and return to the pan.
  5. Pour sauce over browned ground beef, and stir in.
  6. Cook until the sauce has cooked down and only about 1/4 cup of sauce remains, about 1-3 minutes.

Notes

  • Ground pork or ground turkey may be substituted for ground beef.
  • Reduced-sodium soy sauce is recommended to better control sodium content; regular soy sauce can be used as preferred.
  • Adjust gochujang sauce quantity to achieve desired heat; be sure to use sauce, not paste, to avoid excessive spiciness.
