Instructions

  1. Add the beef, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and pepper to a large bowl and mix with your hands. Form the meat into 3 patties about 1 inch thick and lay them on a plate or tray. Use a metal spoon to dent the burgers' tops so the center doesn't pop up when you cook them.
  2. Cook the burgers. You can cook the patties on the grill, in a skillet, or in the air fryer. On the grill or in the skillet, cook them for about 4 minutes per side, flipping once. In the air fryer, cook them at 360 degrees F for 8 minutes, flipping once. Cooking time will vary depending on how you like your burgers. I always use an instant-read thermometer to ensure mine reaches 140 degrees F.
  3. Place the cooked burgers on a plate or tray different from the raw ones! Brush them on both sides with the honey BBQ sauce.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the mayo, chili sauce, and about a sprinkle of scallions. Spread the mixture on the top and bottom hamburger buns. Place the burger on the bottom bun, divide the rest of the scallions, and place them on top of the burgers, then serve.

Notes

  • When mixing the burger mixture, don’t overmix it. Overmixing can lead to tough, dry burgers.
  • When forming the patties, make a little dent in the center of each one with your thumb. This will help the burgers cook evenly and prevent them from puffing up in the middle.
  • After you've cooked the burgers, let them rest for a few minutes before serving for a juicier burger.
  • Stir some gochujang sauce into the meat mixture to make it extra spicy and add more Korean flavor.
