Lasagna
Description
Lasagna preparation begins by browning lean ground beef with minced onion and garlic, then simmering it with tomato sauce and dried herbs for 30 minutes to develop a rich meat sauce. Meanwhile, a cheese mixture is combined from cottage cheese, beaten eggs, Parmesan cheese, salt, and parsley flakes.
In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, layers are built starting with the meat sauce, then noodles, followed by half the meat sauce, half the cheese mixture, and shredded mozzarella cheese. A second layer repeats these steps without mozzarella on top. The dish bakes at 350°F for 45 minutes before topping with remaining mozzarella and baking an additional 10 minutes until cheese melts and browns slightly. Resting for 10-15 minutes before serving allows it to firm up.
This lasagna serves as a substantial main course, suitable for family meals. Leftovers store well in airtight containers refrigerated up to five days or can be frozen whole or in portions. Freezing is possible both before and after baking, with thawing overnight in the refrigerator recommended before reheating. Reheating can be done in a microwave for individual portions or covered and heated in the oven for larger quantities.
