Lawry’s Creamed Spinach

Lawry’s Creamed Spinach uses frozen chopped spinach stirred into a creamy sauce made from sautéed onions, crisp bacon, and a roux of flour and milk. The dish has a smooth, velvety texture from the thickened milk mixture, seasoned with Lawry's seasoned salt, black pepper, and fresh garlic for depth. The combination of greens with flavorful bacon and aromatic garlic makes this a rich side dish option.

Description

This creamed spinach recipe combines frozen chopped spinach with a creamy sauce featuring finely chopped bacon and minced onion sautéed together to build flavor. The flour, milk, and seasonings are whisked into a paste and thickened on medium heat, resulting in a smooth, thickened sauce that coats the spinach evenly. The Lawry's seasoned salt provides a distinctive seasoning blend that complements the dish.

The finished creamed spinach offers a balance of the tender cooked greens with the salty, smoky bacon bits and a creamy texture from the milk sauce. Garlic adds aromatic depth, while the black pepper provides subtle warmth. It can be kept warm until serving, making it a practical side to accompany meats or other main dishes.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 20 ounces spinach 2 packages, frozen, chopped
  • 4 lices Bacon finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup onion minced
  • 4 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon seasoned salt Lawry's brand
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 teaspoons garlic minced
  • 2 cups milk warmed

Instructions

  1. Cook the spinach according to the package directions and drain well. Fry the bacon bits until crisp and set aside. Remove most of the bacon drippings from the pan.
  2. Sautée the onion in the remaining pan drippings until very tender (about 10 minutes). Add the bacon to the onion mixture for the last couple of minutes of cooking.|
  3. Remove the onion/bacon mixture from the heat and stir in the flour, salt, pepper, and garlic and blend thoroughly - it will be a thick paste roux.
  4. Add the warmed milk all in one step. Return the mixture to medium heat and stir continuously until thickened and smooth.
  5. Add the spinach and mix thoroughly. Keep the finished dish warm until ready to serve.
