Lemon Brussels Sprouts

Lemon Brussels Sprouts are sautéed until caramelized and tender, with garlic and butter enriching their flavor and a bright finish of fresh lemon juice and zest. Topped with grated Gruyere or Parmesan cheese, this recipe turns the sprouts savory and bright with a balance of textures from crispy edges to soft interiors.

Description

The recipe starts by trimming and halving fresh Brussels sprouts, which are then cooked in butter over medium-high heat. The sprouts are sautéed about 7-8 minutes per side until the outsides become caramelized and brown while the inside is fully cooked and tender. Garlic is added halfway for aromatic flavor infusion.

After cooking, the heat is lowered to allow stirring in fresh lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, and pepper, adding a citrus brightness that balances the rich butter and savory caramelization. Finally, the dish is garnished with grated Gruyere cheese or Parmesan, enhancing the mouthfeel and umami quality.

This side pairs well with roasted or grilled meats, offering a fresh contrast and a vegetable component that is both creamy and crisp.

  6. Stir to combine and taste. Adjust seasoning if needed. Add the cheese on top and serve.
