Lemon Drop Martini

The Lemon Drop Martini is a cocktail mixing vodka, simple syrup, and fresh lemon juice shaken vigorously and served in a sugar-rimmed glass garnished with a lemon twist. Its vibrant lemon flavor and balance of sweetness and tartness make it a distinctive, refreshing drink.

Description

The Lemon Drop Martini is crafted by first preparing a martini glass with a lemon-wetted rim dipped in sugar to create a sweet border. The cocktail shaker is filled with ice before adding measured amounts of vodka, simple syrup, and freshly strained lemon juice. Shaking vigorously blends these ingredients thoroughly, creating a cold and bright mixture.

The drink is then strained into the prepared glass and finished with a lemon twist garnish, adding aromatic citrus oils. The method of shaking rather than stirring is important to fully combine the liquids, which have different densities and would otherwise separate. Chilling the glass beforehand enhances the coldness of the drink.

This cocktail can be adjusted in vodka quantity to preference. Using fresh lemon juice and optionally lemon sugar for the rim enhances the fresh, tart-sweet flavor that defines the Lemon Drop Martini.

Notes

  • To enhance the sugar rim, zest lemons and mix the zest with sugar for added aroma.
  • Chill martini glasses in the freezer before using to keep the cocktail cold longer.
  • Adjust vodka amount to make the martini stronger or lighter according to taste.
  • Shake the cocktail vigorously instead of stirring to properly combine ingredients with different densities.
  • If without a cocktail shaker, a mason jar with a tight lid can be used for shaking.
