Lightened Up Spinach Artichoke Dip (With Greek Yogurt)

Lightened Up Spinach Artichoke Dip combines thawed spinach, chopped artichoke hearts, cream cheese, Greek yogurt, Parmesan, and mozzarella with garlic and optional green chilies for a creamy, tangy dip. The mixture is heated until melted and can be broiled briefly for a golden cheesy top. Served warm, this dip balances richness with bright, savory flavors and offers a reduced-fat alternative to traditional versions.

Description

This spinach artichoke dip starts with thawed and drained frozen spinach and chopped canned artichokes. Cream cheese and plain Greek yogurt form a creamy base, enriched with grated Parmesan and shredded mozzarella cheeses. Minced garlic and optional drained green chilies add aromatic and spicy notes. The ingredients are combined and heated gently until the cheeses melt into a unified dip.

Optionally, transferring the dip to a casserole dish and broiling it briefly creates a melted, golden cheese crust for presentation. Served warm, it pairs well with crackers, bread, chips, or fresh vegetables, offering a flavorful appetizer or snack with lighter dairy ingredients.

Storing the dip in an airtight container in the fridge keeps it fresh for several days. The dip may also be made in a slow cooker for hands-free warming over a longer period.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 oz package spinach 285 g, frozen
  • 1 oz can artichoke hearts 400 g
  • 1 oz package cream cheese can sub low-fat, 225 g
  • 1 cup yogurt 220 g, plain, Greek
  • ½ cup Parmesan Cheese 50 g, grated
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese 50 g, shredded
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • green chilies drained, optional for spice; 4 oz jar
  • mozzarella optional for broiling; ½ cup

Instructions

  1. Prep: Thaw 1 10-oz package frozen spinach (in the microwave for 30 seconds), then press out as much moisture as possible. Drain and roughly chop 1 14-oz can artichoke hearts.
  2. Heat: Add spinach, artichoke, 1 8-oz package cream cheese, 1 cup plain Greek yogurt, ½ cup grated parmesan, ½ cup shredded mozzarella, and 3 cloves garlic to a large pot. For a spicier dip, optionally add drained green chiles. Taste and add salt and pepper, as needed to suit your taste. Heat over medium until cheese has melted, stirring often. Serve warm!
  3. Broil (optional): For a melty presentation, you can transfer the dip to a small casserole dish and top with ½ cup mozzarella cheese. Set your oven to "broil" and cook until cheese has melted, about 2 to 3 minutes (watch closely while oven is on broil, it will burn quickly).
  4. Serve: Warm with crackers, bread, chips, or fresh veggies!

Notes

  • Store the dip covered in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days to maintain freshness.
  • To prepare in a slow cooker, combine all ingredients and cook on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 2-3 hours until hot and bubbly.
  • Broil the dip topped with extra mozzarella cheese for a melty, browned finish before serving.
