Macaroni and Beef Pasta Dish

This Macaroni and Beef Pasta Dish brings together ground beef and Italian sausage cooked with spices and a tomato-based sauce, simmered to deepen flavor. Elbow macaroni is combined with the sauce for a hearty and comforting casserole-style meal. The blend of garlic, onion powder, paprika, and red pepper flakes adds a round and mildly spicy profile. Served warm with grated Parmesan, the dish balances meatiness and rich tomato flavors in a satisfying pasta dinner.

Description

The Macaroni and Beef Pasta Dish uses a mixture of ground beef and Italian sausage sautéed with diced onion and seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and crushed red pepper flakes. The meat is cooked until just browned, then simmered with canned whole peeled tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and sugar to create a thick, hearty sauce over about an hour of simmering.

Elbow macaroni is cooked slightly less than package directions, drained, and rinsed, then combined with the simmered sauce to finish cooking together for an additional ten minutes. This method allows the pasta to absorb more sauce flavor. The dish has a rich, mildly spiced tomato meat sauce with tender pasta throughout. Grated Parmesan sprinkled on top adds a nutty, salty accent.

Enjoy this pasta as a filling main course for lunch or dinner. It pairs well with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables to balance its richness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion diced, medium
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes crushed
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1 28 ounce whole peeled tomatoes canned
  • 2 15 ounce tomato sauce canned
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 lb elbow macaroni large

Instructions

  1. In a large pot over medium high heat warm oil and add onion, cooking until softened.
  2. Add beef, sausage, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, red pepper, and salt and pepper. Cook, until lightly browned, about five minutes.
  3. Add whole tomatoes with he juice, breaking up the tomatoes. Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, and sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, and simmer, uncovered for about an hour.
  4. While the sauce is cooking, cook pasta, reducing the cooking time by a couple of minutes. Drain pasta, and rinse with cold water.
  5. Stir the macaroni and sauce sauce together. Adjust salt and pepper to taste, and cook everything for another 10 minutes. Serve with grated Parmesan cheese.
