Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 mahi mahi fish filets
  • salt
  • black pepper

Brown Butter Garlic Sauce:

  • 6 Tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice fresh
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Avocado Salsa:

  • 1 avocado diced
  • ½ cup cherry tomato quartered
  • ¼ red onion chopped
  • lime juice juice from 2 limes
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro finely chopped
  • teaspoon salt dash

Instructions

Avocado salsa:

  1. Mix the avocado, tomatoes, red onion, lime juice, chopped cilantro, and salt in a small mixing bowl.

Pan Seared Mahi Mahi:

  1. In a large skillet over medium high heat, add the olive oil. Salt and pepper the mahi mahi and cook until golden 4 - 5 minutes each side, or until the fish filets reach an internal temperature of 135 F. Set aside on a plate.

Brown butter garlic sauce:

  1. Heat the butter in the same skillet. Swirl the butter occasionally until it has turned a light brown color and is fragrant. Remove from heat and whisk the lime juice, garlic, honey, salt and pepper into the sauce.
  2. Add the fish back to the skillet and spoon the sauce over the fish.
  3. Top the mahi mahi with the avocado salsa and serve warm.

Notes

  • Pat the mahi mahi fillets dry with kitchen paper before seasoning. This will help them to brown.
  • Take care not to burn the butter, it should be a light golden brown color when it's taken off of the heat. If it's burnt it can taste bitter.
  • Use an instant read thermometer to check that the fish is cooked all the way through. It should register at 135F in the thickest part of the fillet.
