Make Ahead Batch Bacon

This Make Ahead Batch Bacon recipe shows how to bake bacon slices evenly until crisp and brown in the oven. The method includes instructions for freezing cooked bacon in layers with parchment paper, allowing for convenient storage and quick reheating. This technique produces well-cooked bacon with less mess and hands-on time compared to frying, plus efficient bulk preparation.

Description

The recipe involves arranging bacon slices in a single layer on foil-lined baking sheets and baking them at 425°F (or 400°F if using convection) until crisp and browned, approximately 18-20 minutes. The process includes rotating pans halfway to ensure even cooking. After baking, the bacon is drained on paper towels.

For long-term storage, the cooked bacon can be frozen in single layers separated by parchment or wax paper on a baking sheet, ensuring pieces do not stick together. Once frozen solid, the bacon layers are transferred to a freezer-safe bag, allowing removal of individual slices as needed. This method retains crispness and flavor, simplifying preparation for future meals or snacks.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 lb Bacon about 24 slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees or if using convection mode preheat to 400 degrees. Place oven racks on lower middle and upper middle positions.
  2. Arrange the bacon in a single layer on two rimmed foil lined baking sheets. Place both baking sheets in oven and bake until crisp and browned, about 18-20 minutes. Make sure and rotate the pans halfway through the baking process.
  3. Remove from oven and transfer bacon to a paper-towel-lined plate. Serve immediately or freeze ahead for later.

TO FREEZE

  1. Remove foil from baking pans and discard. Place parchment or wax paper on baking sheet.
  2. Arrange bacon in a single layer on baking sheet, add another piece of parchment or wax paper and layer another layer, making sure pieces aren’t touching. Freeze until hard, about 2 hours. This is a critical step, so don’t skip this.
  3. Transfer to gallon sized freezer safe bag and remove one piece out at a time as needed.
